Ceramics Taster Course

This short course (4 weeks) is suitable for those with limited or no experience of working with clay. Working under the guidance of experienced tutors and ceramicists you will dip into hand-building, throwing on the potters wheel and decorative and finishing skills. Please note, you would have all of the skills you’d need to join our ”Improvers” courses. Included in the course costs is up to 3kg of clay, glazing and firing. What’s Covered on this Course?
Hand
building
Working to shape the clay by pinching, coiling and rolling, you will learn the fundamentals of hand-building to construct a range of ceramics.
Throwing
Learning how to centre the clay on the wheel and to shape simple cylinders by lifting the clay. Following on with turning to refine and shape the form.
Glazing
You will learn how to dip and pour glazes on to bisque fired work in order to produce the decorative finish to the pots.
